Ways to incorporate your theme into your wedding

If you and your partner have a mutual passion or affinity for something whether it be an activity, movie, book, color, etc. consider making it the theme of your wedding. If you have interests that you want to incorporate throughout your big day, you can also do so on a smaller scale. Whether you want your entire wedding to revolve around one theme, or incorporate subtle elements here and there, we’ve rounded up a list of places you can incorporate your theme throughout your wedding day, both big and small.

Cake topper

Whether you’re having large figurines on top of your cake, or mini toothpick signs stuck in individual cupcakes, toppers are a great way to bring your theme into your reception. Star-Trek lovers Patric and Darin put a spin on the likeness-cake topper by putting two Star Trek characters in place of two figures that looked like them. They surrounded the cake with pumpkins to incorporate their official harvest theme. Cake toppers do not need to be the just-married caricatures that you traditionally see adorning cakes, they can also include decorated signs with your photos, names or anything related to you as a couple.

Invitations

Introduce your wedding theme to guests right from the start by including it into the design of your invitation. Andreia and Veronica had a camp-themed wedding and included an outdoor theme into their invitations for their wedding at a YMCA camp.

Favors

Let guests take the memory of your theme wedding home with them by incorporating it into your favors. Steven and Andrew’s rainbow-themed wedding included favors made up of an assortment rainbow items such as Skittles and a bracelet, tied up neartly in a rainbow bag.

Jewelry and accessories

Accessorizing is a great way to showcase your interests without making theme the focal point. Accessories such as necklaces, bracelets, cuff links, shoes, etc. are great statement pieces and make the perfect gift to give your future partner before the ceremony. Ludick and James included their love of Star Trek by wearing custom “Live Long and Prosper,” cuff links.

Flowers

If you have a favorite flower, use it in many different facets of your big day. While flowers are great for bouquets, boutonnieres and centerpieces, they can also be incorporated in patterns such as clothing or table cloths or used to decorate cakes. Shauna and Kim gave their entire wedding party a large sunflower to hold, creating a beautiful symmetry in their wedding photos.

Apparel

Does your wedding theme center around the clothing or costumes you and your partner plan to get married in? Dressing up in theme-related attire is a great way to set the stage for your wedding theme. For Jada and Katheaine’s “Princess Bride” wedding, even the guests dressed as characters from the book to enhance the theme.

If you aren’t ready to make a big theme statement with your wedding attire, consider a subtle addition, such as socks. You may not see them at first glance, but they can make for excellent photos!
